Go to Monday | Tuesday | Wednesday | Thursday | Friday Saturday | Sunday | Monday
We started out Wednesday morning with a lovely breakfast that Maritza made for us. That morning we were running low on diesel, so we stopped at a station to refuel. We had full service treatment. After this, we went over to Ricardo's house. Ricardo was one of the first New Testament Christians in Costa Rica. We had a lovely visit in his home and we were treated to coffee and cookie while there. Ricardo has some health problems and is not able to get out of the house very much. Both he and his wife appreciated the visit.
We stopped by the church building in Tres Rios and several children were outside playing. This family lives across the street from the church building in Tres Rios. The oldest child in the family is Diego. Diego went just about everywhere with us this week. He was our constant companion and friend. Diego is eleven years old and we had the opportunity to teach him more about Christ and his church. Diego's mother was so impressed with the love that we showed toward Diego during the week, that we were able to have a Bible study with her.
After playing a little with the children, we took a tour of the church building in Tres Rios. We then went across the street to another person's house and visited with one of the members. This particular member had suffered an automobile accident a few years ago that left him in a vegetable state. We sang songs (Jesus Loves Me and Seek Ye First), and had prayer with him. He is still cared for by his wife who is not a Christian.
After visiting this gentleman, we proceeded to knock doors in the community and hand out tracts and announcements of the gospel meeting at Tres Rios. We divided into two teams. Larry, Susan, and John went with Walter and Mary Lynn and I went with Moises. We were able to cover the whole neighborhood surrounding the church building in a couple of hours.
We went back to the house for dinner where Maritza had prepared us a fine meal of which the main dish was fried yucca and baked plantains. All of Maritza's meals were wonderful and filling.
That evening, we started our meeting in Tres Rios. We had several from the community that visited including Diego's family. I preached that evening on the cases of conversion within the book of Acts and the plan of salvation as given in the great commission. Walter translated for me this evening and did a good job. The lesson was well received. That evening we also gave the toys that we had brought to the children there. They were delighted to receive them. After the meeting we took several members back to their homes in the van and returned to the house for the evening.
