SUBJECT: Word of God
TITLE: "As the Oracles of God"
PROPOSITION: When we speak "as the oracles of God" we speak 1) According as God has revealed, 2) Without adding or taking away from what he has revealed, and 3) By addressing and observing all that He has revealed.
Objectives: To teach how to speak "as the oracles of God."
Aim: That each would resolve to so do in their daily communications with others.
INTRODUCTION:
1. Read: 1 Peter 4:10-11
2. About the Text:
1) Peter is speaking to Christians who are dispersed throughout the Roman empire.
2) He is writing to encourage them to endure in times of suffering.
3) He also wants to encourage them that it won't be long before this time ends.
4) In 1 Peter 4:7 he says that the end is at hand.
5) He encourages Christians . . .
a. To love one another (verse 8).
b. To be hospitable (verse 9).
c. To serve one another (Verse 10).
6) He then describes the kind of service that God expects.
7) If we speak, then let us speak as the oracles of God.
8) If we serve, according to the ability God has given us.
9) It is so that God may be glorified in all things.
10) How do we speak as the oracles of God?

DISCUSSION: We speak . . .
I. According As God Has Revealed
1. With accuracy
1) Consider God's instruction to Balaam: "And God came unto Balaam at night, and said unto him, If the men are come to call thee, rise up, go with them; but only the word which I speak unto thee, that shalt thou do." ( Numbers 22:20).
2) Consider Micaiah's words in this regard, "And Micaiah said, As Jehovah liveth, what Jehovah saith unto me, that will I speak" ( 1 Kings 22:14).
3) In this style, Jesus himself said, "...the things therefore which I speak, even as the Father hath said unto me, so I speak" ( John 12:50).
2. But with simplicity.
1) An illustration.
a. Scintillate, scintillate, globule vivific, Fain would I fathom thy nature specific. Loftily poised in the ether capacious, Strongly resembling a gem carbonaceous.
b. In other words, twinkle, twinkle, little star, How I wonder what you are, Up above the world so high, Like a diamond in the sky.
2) Habakkuk 2:2 "And the LORD answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it."
3) Paul said, "howbeit in the church I had rather speak five words with my understanding, that I might instruct others also, than ten thousand words in a tongue."
II. Without Adding or Taking Away from What God Has Revealed
1. Deuteronomy 4:2 "Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish from it, that ye may keep the commandments of Jehovah your God which I command you."
2. Proverbs 30:5-6 "Every word of God is tried: He is a shield unto them that take refuge in him. Add thou not unto his words, Lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar."
3. In Jeremiah 26:2, God tells Jeremiah, "Thus saith Jehovah: Stand in the court of Jehovah's house, and speak unto all the cities of Judah, which come to worship in Jehovah's house, all the words that I command thee to speak unto them; diminish not a word."
4. Paul said to the Corinthians, "Now these things, brethren, I have in a figure transferred to myself and Apollos for your sakes; that in us ye might learn not to go beyond the things which are written; that no one of you be puffed up for the one against the other" ( 1 Corinthians 4:6).
III. By Addressing and Observing All that God Has Revealed
1. Tell story of professional golfer who hit the wrong ball.
2. We must get ALL of the information.
3. Acts 20:25-27 "And now, behold, I know that ye all, among whom I went about preaching the kingdom, shall see my face no more. Wherefore I testify unto you this day, that I am pure from the blood of all men. For I shrank not from declaring unto you the whole counsel of God."
4. Matthew 28:18-20 "...Go ye therefore, and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them into the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit: teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I commanded you: and lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world."
5. Jesus said simply, "It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God." ( Matthew 4:4).
CONCLUSION:
1. When we speak "as the oracles of God" we speak
1) According as God has revealed.
2) Without adding or taking away from what he has revealed.
3) By addressing and observing all that He has revealed.
