Will babies that have not known the Lord be condemned if they die?

By Kevin Cauley

What will happen to babies who passed away and were not baptised but parents are Christains? Or embryos that had been aborted? Kids that died without knowing the Lord?

In response to your second question, the Bible teaches that it is when we choose to sin that we fall short of God’s glory ( Romans 3:23). Infants, babies, toddlers, and young children have no capacity to sin because they are incapable of making the choice to sin. Jesus pronounced their innocence and his fellowship with them in Matthew 19:13, 14, Mark 10:13, 14, and Luke 18:15-17. The Psalmist also tells us that children are a blessing from God ( Psalm 127:3-5). How could children be a blessing from God yet be sinful? They cannot. God has made the human soul ( Ecclesiastes 12:7, Isaiah 42:5, 57:16 and Zecheriah 12:1) and it is impossible for God to create that which is inherently sinful because God is holy ( 1 Peter 1:16). The only conclusion that one may draw is that children are sinless and holy until such a time as they mature and are capable of making sinful choices and have indeed made a sinful choice ( Isaiah 59:2).

The doctrine of "original sin" is false. It is NOT the case the children inherit sin from their parents. Ezekiel 18:20 clearly states that each individual will bear the guilt of sin for his own choices, not for the choices of his progenitors. It is the soul that sins that shall die spiritually ( Romans 6:23). Infants, babies, and young children have no sin, so they are not subject to spiritual death. This would include children in the womb as well.

So, in answer to your question, if there is no sin to effect spiritual death, then the souls of innocent children who die remain in fellowship with the Lord.
