Premillenialism Preposterous Positions

Premillennialism's Preposterous Positions

Hebrews 8

*This outline is adapted from notes of a Robert Taylor sermon that I heard him preach.

Introduction:

1. The world has been duped by man false teachings.

2. No so much as the idea of Premillennialism.

3. It is a doctrine of third and fourth chances.

4. It is a doctrine where accountability to the word of God does not exist.

5. With their 1000 year reign, rapture, and earthly kingdom, people do not have to look far to see the dangers of this doctrine.

6. God has given us the tools to combat such evil.

7. Hebrews 8.

I)        Christ will not reign on Earth.  ( Hebrews 8:4)

A)     Christ's reign is a heavenly reign.

1.       The kingdom was not rejected but established in Heaven.

a.       Is it possible for any rational person to suppose that God would be thwarted by man?

(i)      Yet this is the position of the premillennealist.

(ii)    The church was and is a part of God's redemptive plan.

(a)    God saw that man would sin.

(b)   God's justice would not allow man's salvation in a sinful state.

(c)    God made provisions for man to be saved.

(d)   Luke 19:10 - The Son of man has come to seek and save the lost.

(iii)   We are told there will be no remission of sins without the blood of Jesus. ( Heb 9:22).

(iv)  Jesus uttered "It is finished on the cross." John 19:30

b.      It was God's eternal purpose to offer sinful man redemption.

(i)      Ephesians 3:10-11 - To the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in heavenly places might be known by the church the manifold wisdom of God, According to the eternal purpose which he purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord:

(ii)    Redemption is found only in the church.

(a)    Acts 20:28 - Purchased with the blood of Christ

(b)   Acts 2:47 - Added to the church by God.

(c)    Ephesians 5:23-28 - For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body. Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing. Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish. So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself.

2.       The church was not a "Plan B."

a.       Matthew 16:18-19 - And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.

(i)      Notice the terms church and kingdom coincide.

(ii)    Peter opened the doors of the redemptive kingdom.

(a)    Acts 2

(b)   Acts 8

(c)    Acts 11

(iii)   Acts 2:14-16

b.      The kingdom and church are the same.

(i)      Same owner - John 18:36 - Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence.

(ii)    Same ruler - 1 Timothy 6:15

(iii)   Same beginning place - Isaiah 2:1-2

(iv)  Same law - Acts 2

(v)    Same admittance terms - John 3:3-5

(vi)  Same glory - Ephesians 3:21 - Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.

c.       Have we not read that Christians are in the kingdom

(i)      Colossians 1:13 -  Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:

(ii)    Hebrews 12:28 - Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear:

(iii)   Colossians 1:18 - And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.

B)      If Christ returned then one would have to return to the O.T. law.

1.       If so then Christ would have to be brought down.

a.       Romans 10:6 - But the righteousness which is of faith speaketh on this wise, Say not in thine heart, Who shall ascend into heaven? (that is, to bring Christ down from above:)

b.      But he shall not be.

2.       If so then the O.T. law would have to be reestablished.

a.       Jude 3 -  Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.

b.      Galatians 5:4 -  Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace.

3.       Should we suppose it God's plan to substitute animal sacrifices for Christ's blood?

a.       1 Peter 1:19 - But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:

b.      No Christ shed his blood for the sins of the world as the ultimate sacrifice.

II)      Christians have a better covenant.  ( Hebrews 8:6)

A)     Heavenly reign is better than an earthly reign.

1.       Christ is now on the throne of David.

a.       Acts 2:29-33

b.      Hebrews 1:3-13

c.       Christ is the only sovereign.

d.      Christ is the only lawgiver.

e.      Christ has been given all authority.

f.        Christ has everything under his feet.

2.       The work of Jesus is not complete and there is no reason to rule on earth.

a.       Colossians 1:13-14 - Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son: In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins:

b.      Hebrews 4:14 - Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession.

c.       Declared that he was finished - John 19:30.

B)      The better promises of God are found in Heaven.

1.       The land promise has been fulfilled.

a.       Genesis 17:8 -  And I will give unto thee, and to thy seed after thee, the land wherein thou art a stranger, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession; and I will be their God.

b.      Joshua 21:43 - And the LORD gave unto Israel all the land which he sware to give unto their fathers; and they possessed it, and dwelt therein.

2.       Our promises are heavenly.

a.       Mansions -

b.      No sorrow, pain -

c.       Pure joy -

d.      Live with God -

e.      Incorruptible -

3.       The Lord is not slack concerning His promises.

a.       2 Peter 3:9-10 - The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.

b.      Promised salvation.

c.       Promised one resurrection - John 5:28-29 - Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.

III)    Earth is ready to vanish away.  ( Hebrews 8:13)

A)     Ready means to be in a position to move forward.

1.       God promised the destruction of the earth.

a.       2 Peter 3:10 - . But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.

b.      God has fulfilled his land promise and no longer needs the earth to give to man.

2.       Revelation 20:1-3 tends to be the sugar stick of the premillennialist.

a.       But he is wrong there too.

b.      Look at what he is saying is literal and what is not literal.

c.       These verses are silent about Christ.

(i)      Never says anything about Christ coming back to earth.

(ii)    Never says anything about Christ ruling in Jerusalem.

(iii)   Never says anything about Christ building an earthly kingdom.

(iv)  Never says anything about Christ's 2nd coming.

(v)    Never says anything about a 1000 year reign of Christ.

(vi)  Never says anything about a literal throne of David.

(vii) Never says anything about a bodily resurrection.

B)      The better priesthood and kingship of Christ is ready to move us to Heaven.

1.       Judgment will come when Christ returns.

a.       2 Timothy 4:1 - I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom;

b.      1 Thessalonians 4:14-17 - For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him. For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

c.       Paul speaks of the dead and alive.

(i)      All will meet the Lord in the air.

(ii)    All will be raised.

(iii)   All will be judged.

2.       Prior to the Pentecost following Jesus death Apostles spoke of the kingdom as at hand.

3.       Following that Pentecost these same men spoke of the Kingdom as here.

a.       Tells us that God is ready to move us to heaven.

b.      Matthew 10:7 -  And as ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand.

c.       Matthew 16:28 - Verily I say unto you, There be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom.

Conclusion:

1. The gospel is the only second chance you get.
