Five Tools to Improve Your Prayer Life

We are commanded to pray (1 Thess. 5:17; Phil. 4:6). If it is something Christians are expected to do, then getting in and doing it is important! A prayer does not have to be long or eloquent to be effective (Neh. 5:19; Matt. 6:7-8; Luke 18:9-14). Maturing in prayer life will find us developing the discipline of prayer so that we turn to God first in our lives when joys or sorrows or anything prevails (Jas. 5:13; 1 Pet. 5:6-7).

Can the Devil Give You a Vision Tempting You From God?

First, God does not give miraculous visions today. Those miracles ended after the time of the apostles. First Corinthians 13:8-10 says, “Love never fails. But whether there are prophecies, they will fail; whether there are tongues, they will cease; whether there is knowledge, it will vanish away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part. But when that which is perfect (complete) has come, then that which is in part will be done away.” Today, the complete word of God has been revealed by God (2 Timothy 3:16-17). Prophecies, tongues, knowledge, and other miracles were “in part.” The knowledge that comes through the revealed, written word of God is complete.

    Premillennialism – Right or Wrong?

In this lesson we will look at whether premillennialism is true or false to get a brief overview of what this belief teaches. These doctrines are: 1) Prophecy Unfulfilled, 2) Rejection of the Messiah by the Jews, 3) Imperfection of the Church, 4) Only the saints raised in the rapture, 5) Reign of Christ for 1000 years. Each listener should be able to explain why premillennialism is false. To help all understand that premillennialism is a false doctrine that will cause someone's soul to be lost if believed due to its blasphemous doctrines regarding Christ and the church.

    Lessons from the Mission Field

This lesson sets forth some lessons learned from my experience in the Mission Field. 1) The poor are always with us, 2) The less one has, the more one values what one does have, 3) A good attitude toward life and work comes from the knowledge that one is serving God. 4) Time is our most important sacrifice. Each member should reflect upon their own attitudes in comparison to those of the brethren in the Mission Field. I want to communicate the idea that it does not take a lot to do a lot.

Why is the Apocrypha not in the Bible?

These books never had canonical status in the Hebrew Bible. The translator of the Vulgate, Jerome (342-420 A.D.), said that they were not to be considered part of the canon of the Old Testament. He maintained that there were twenty-two books in the Old Testament canon and he listed them in a letter known today as the Prologus Galeatus. He said, “what is not found in our list must be placed amongst the Apocryphal writings,” and they “are not in the canon.”

Was the Thief on the Cross Saved without Baptism?

The thief on the cross was saved, but was he saved without baptism? We do not know. We cannot say that he was NEVER baptized. John baptized many. Matthew 3:5-6 says, “Then Jerusalem, all Judea, and all the region around the Jordan went out to him and were baptized by him in the Jordan, confessing their sins.” John 4:1 says, “…Jesus made and baptized more disciples than John.” How could one absolutely KNOW that the thief on the cross was not among these people? Given Matthew and John’s statements regarding the number of people who were baptized, it is more likely that he was.

  • Practicing Self Control

In order to have self-control in our lives we must realize 1) What is out of control – our desires, 2) Who is in control – God, 3) How we have self-control – Jesus and the spirit, and 4) Why we need self-control – to fulfill God’s purposes. God wants us to practice self-control in our lives so that we will not be dominated by our own sinful desires and so that we will fulfill His great purposes for our lives.
